Self-Assessment Essay

Self-Assessment Essay

At the beginning of the semester, I did not think I was a good writer. Writing essays was hard for me because I struggled to organize my ideas, explain my thoughts clearly, and use strong evidence to support my points. Most of the time, I rushed through assignments just to finish them instead of taking my time to improve my writing. I also was not very confident because I always felt like my writing was not good enough. Looking back now, I can see how much I have improved as both a writer and a student.

One of the biggest things I improved on was finding and using sources. At the start of the semester, I had trouble finding reliable information and using it correctly in my essays. Sometimes I picked weak sources or forgot to explain how the evidence connected to my argument. Citations were also difficult for me because I made a lot of mistakes with formatting. As the semester went on, I learned how important good sources and proper citations are in writing. I got better at researching, finding trustworthy information, and using evidence to support my ideas. Because of this, my essays became stronger and more detailed.

Another challenge I had was critical thinking. In the beginning, I mostly repeated information instead of explaining why it mattered. I had trouble going deeper into topics and connecting ideas together. Over time, I learned how to think more carefully and ask better questions while writing. I became better at analyzing information instead of just summarizing it. This helped me make stronger arguments and explain my ideas more clearly.

I also became more confident and patient as a writer. At first, I would get frustrated when my ideas did not come together right away. I did not like revising my work because I focused too much on my mistakes. As the semester continued, I realized that good writing takes time and practice. I learned to slow down, reread my work, and make changes to improve it. This helped me become more patient and focus on writing better essays instead of just finishing fast. As my writing improved, my confidence grew too.

Another big improvement was the way I think and organize my ideas. At the beginning of the semester, it took me a long time to come up with ideas and structure my paragraphs. Now, I can think faster and explain my thoughts more clearly. I have become more informative in my writing and better at connecting evidence to my points. Writing feels easier and less stressful for me now.

Overall, this semester helped me grow a lot as a writer. I improved my research skills, citations, critical thinking, and confidence. Even though writing was difficult for me at the start, I now feel much stronger and more comfortable with it. I know I still have more to learn, but I am proud of how far I have come and how much I have improved throughout the semester.

3 Artifacts that helped me write this:

1.Reviewing my past assignments and reflections helped me recognize my growth, strengths, and areas where I improved throughout the course.

2.Feedback from my teacher and classmates helped me understand what I did well in my writing and what skills I still needed to develop.

3.Organizing my ideas before writing helped me create a clear and thoughtful self-assessment essay with strong examples to support my points.
